Mattia Sinigaglia (b. 1989, Italy) is a painter based between Venice and the Emilian hills. His practice spans painting, sculpture, and installation, working with materials such as wood, clay, ceramic, and oil on canvas. These elements are chosen for their symbolic and formal qualities, but also for their ability to act as living components of the work—never mere tools, but active voices within an organic language.

Sinigaglia’s work investigates the blurred boundary between humanity and animality—a threshold that doesn’t separate, but reveals. Influenced by the writings of Giorgio Agamben, Jacques Derrida, and Felice Cimatti, his research explores how the figure of the animal has been historically constructed as other, excluded from discourse, and symbolically charged. In his works, the animal becomes presence and witness—a gaze that silently confronts us with the question of what it means to be human.

He graduated in Painting from the Accademia di Belle Arti di Venezia and is a member of the collective Fondazione Malutta.

Recent exhibitions include The animal that therefore I am, (solo show, AplusA Gallery, Venice, 2025), On and Beyond – A Love Letter to Shadows (Alberta Pane Gallery, Venice, 2025), and the 24th Cairo Prize (finalist, Milan, 2025). Other shows include Venice Time Case (2021–2023, curated by Luca Massimo Barbero), which is part of the permanent archive of the Venice Art Biennale, HAND/MADE and PAD Paris with Galerie Italienne, Salon at Rizzuto Gallery, Crocodile Tears (Young Space, New York), and Fondazione Malutta en Mexico.

In 2019–2020 he was an artist-in-residence at VIR Viafarini, Milan.
