Xufei Qiao is a multidisciplinary artist whose work transforms cultural heritage, natural elements and textile traditions into thought-provoking visual narratives. Born in Beijing and raised in Tokyo and Montreal, with further studies in Paris and London, her multicultural background profoundly influences her artistic perspective, enabling her to bridge Eastern and Western sensibilities. Drawing inspiration from Chinese garden design principles and silk craftsmanship, she incorporates traditional patterns such as plum blossom and peony motifs into her works, creating pieces that encourage viewers to explore the interaction between cultural memory and natural forms, while examining self-identity within multicultural contexts.
In the bustling city, small animals quietly create their own world. As night falls, their stories gradually unfold. The "Cats in the Night" series originates from moments captured in daily life, featuring cats from the neighborhood as its protagonists. A chance discovery of cats' adorable yet mysterious qualities in the darkness inspired the artist to explore more stories of wild cats at night and portray them on canvas.
