NEW WORKS

Since her beginnings in the mid-1990s, Alexandra Duprez has developed an intuitive practice of drawing and painting inspired by art brut and the primitive arts. In her images,  Duprez creates a dreamlike, phantasmagorical universe populated by disturbing creatures, entangled forms and multiplying eyes.

At the center of her work is the human body in a state of continual mutation, a body that splits, erases and transforms itself.  Using a predomintely additive process of markmaking and collage, the artist creates what she calls “shreds of images” -- fragments of a reinvented history, as if memory itself could be personified in the place between figuration and abstraction.
