MEPAINTSME is pleased to present the group exhibition, MPM / IRL (mepaintsme in real life), on view at our temporary gallery space in New York's Lower East Side. The exhibition assembles a dispersed network of artists, whose relationships with the artist/curator have largely developed online, into a shared physical space. The show features over fifty contemporary artists, as well as works by 20th-century artists on loan from private collections.

Although art resists a singular, universal function, it remains essential to how we think, feel, and connect as human beings. At its core, art is not only a tool for communication but a missive to other artists, reaching beyond the self to initiate a silent dialogue across time and space — a coded signal passed between souls seeking connection.

Social media has amplified the artist’s desire for a creative collective by dissolving traditional boundaries of geography, language, and culture. It accelerates communication, often reshaping creative trajectories and reaffirming art’s enduring purpose: not just to express, but to connect.

MPM / IRL offers a compelling testament by validating virtual engagement as not only legitimate, but generative. It brings a together a decentralized group of artists—whose practices have primarily intersected in digital spaces—into the physical world as a manifestation of a new kind of community.
