Lives and works in Copenhagen, Denmark

  • Joakim Drescher, born in Denmark in 1986, is a visual artist, printmaker, and writer renowned for his distinctive narrative style and vivid illustrations. Raised in a creative environment, he is the eldest son of illustrator and author Henrik Drescher and artist Lauren Drescher. His upbringing spanned various countries, including Indonesia, New Zealand, China, the Netherlands, and the USA, before he settled in Copenhagen in 2015.

Drescher's formal education in the arts was completed at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts in Fine Arts from 2009 to 2013. His artistic practice encompasses printmaking, drawing, painting, writing, and publishing. He has developed a unique visual storytelling approach, often utilizing accessible mediums such as comic books and graphic techniques to explore themes of politics, culture, and society.

Among his notable works is the "Motel Universe" series, a collection of graphic novels that depict a dystopian, casino-like galaxy filled with hedonism and satire. The series has been published by Secret Acres in New York and Terry Bleu in Amsterdam, with the third installment released in 2023.

In addition to his publications, Drescher has exhibited his work extensively. Recent solo exhibitions include "Street Life" at UdstillingsStedet Sydhavn Station in Copenhagen (2024) and "Bedlam" at Danske Grafikeres Hus in Copenhagen (2024).
