SLIGHT OF HAND 2022

SMALL WORKS BY CONTEMPORARY ARTISTS

NOVEMBER 1 - DECEMBER 31, 2022

“And the air was full of Thoughts and Things to Say. But at times like these, only the Small Things are ever said. Big Things lurk unsaid inside.”

― Arundhati Roy, The God of Small Things

Chaos Theory, the study of seemingly chaotic natural systems, stresses the importance of small actions: big changes can result from the very small differences in initial circumstances. In art it can be easy to dismiss these tiny and minute gestures, yet in the artworks selected for Slight of Hand, these gestures become little windows from where to look out and observe the narration of huge and layered stories and universes. Working within these reduced dimensions, the 46 artists participating in Slight of Hand invite viewers to come closer, both to their work and between each other, generating a peculiar embrace and intimate atmosphere where one can pay more meticulous attention to passages.

In Slight of Hand, our eyes are transformed into proper explorers, continuously wandering along artistic surfaces, while searching for precious treasures, and cherishing the details along the way. If the ‘Butterfly effect’ could affect the creative process, then every work of art, made up of small, pondered gestures, would generate a world, an ensemble. And what world would we discover among this flapping of the wings? Probably one much smaller and more connected than we'd ever expected.
