In Creature Feature, we invite the viewer to wander the forest of the imagination, a place where all the fantastical creatures lurk. Though you may, at first, recognize some of these creatures as animals firmly planted in our world, you'll quickly find that realism is shunned in favor of a more personal and intuitive approach. Each of the sixteen artists in Creature Feature listens carefully to their subject, creatures fictional or real, that speak to them from a realm that is informed by our world, yet spawned in the imagination. Some works seem born from memories of children's books, while others are simple, stouthearted depictions of common birds, horses, and cats presented in lush brushstrokes. For each work, their true power is felt when we move beyond the paint on the surface to connect with the creatures themselves, reflect upon our own human morality, and reimagine our existence uncorrupted.
