Rendez-vous: a mirror

APRIL 23 - MAY 28, 2026

There is a house over there,

And here, my own.

There is a deep dark hole over there,

Over there a silence,

A silence…

I walked through the streets of my city,

It was springtime,

A woman's home: a tent on a patch of grass.

A child's home: a piece of cardboard.

I returned to the house that is, I was told, my own.

I made a drawing,

A poem in images,

An image in prayer.

I saw over there the house,

I saw over there the garden blooming once more.

MPM Gallery is pleased to present a selection of drawings by the French artist Aurélie Salavert in her second solo exhibition with the gallery. Aurélie describes her practice as a means of recording chance encounters with her own imaginings: “A thing appears in the mind, then disappears, like clouds in the sky…” The exhibition’s title, Rendez-vous: A Mirror, suggests such an encounter—an invitation to convene with the artist’s own fleeting apparitions, translating them into physical form through painting, drawing, and mixed media. As with all of Aurélie Salavert’s delicate compositions, this latest grouping defies simple categorization, shifting fluidly between tenderness, darkness, humor, sexuality, and mysticism. Aurélie intentionally eschews dates, allowing her dreamlike liaisons to exist in a perpetual present, serving as a looking glass through which to view her inner world.

“Most of my drawings appear in my mind in moments of solitude, often when I am in the silence of my room. I do not request this state. It happens naturally, a vision.”
