ARTIST STATEMENT

My paintings are like ecotones, existing between multiple states. An ecotone is an area that straddles an in-between zone where several ecosystems overlap and a rich biodiversity can flourish. I'm interested in this idea as a structure for paintings to contemplate multiple experiences. My work is concentrated on posthuman perceptions of painting and nature. I find the intelligence of painting is analogous to the intelligence of nature, and I explore both as transcendental and abstract perspectives through materiality and process. Observing nature through paint becomes a way to dream about our future through our origins.
