OPEN CALL 2025
ANNUAL JURIED EXHIBITION & FUNDRAISER
OPEN CALL 2025
AUGUST 7 - SEPTEMBER 9, 2025
JURIED EXHIBITION AND FUNDRAISER
In the four years since its inception, the MEPAINTSME Annual Open Call has grown into a unique program that welcomes and uplifts voices across the full spectrum of artistic practice. It has provided a meaningful opportunity for emerging, non-professional, and established artists alike to present their work in a setting that places everyone on equal footing. The intention has always been to create an exhibition environment where the work itself—rather than the résumé of the artist—takes center stage. Much like the spirit of my Instagram feed, each submission is evaluated on its individual merit, with no consideration given to reputation, representation, or career status.
This year’s selection of 50 artworks reflects not only the strength of this approach but also the remarkable breadth of talent it attracts. The exhibition brings together an impressive variety of media, techniques, and conceptual frameworks, resulting in a show that is as diverse in perspective as it is cohesive in quality — the artworks may differ in scale, material, or subject matter, yet all share a commitment to authenticity and artistic rigor.
Beyond showcasing talent, MEPAINTSME'S Annual Open Call has also sought to strengthen the ties between artists, collectors, and the broader community by creating an opportunity for artists and collectors to support nonprofit groups whose missions resonate with my own values of accessibility, equity, and cultural enrichment. In doing so, the Open Call becomes not only a platform for creative expression but also a vehicle for collective generosity and meaningful change.
This year’s exhibition will be raising funds to support the reconstruction and recovery of The River Arts District in Asheville, North Carolina. This renowned artistic hub, home to over 700 artists working across a variety of mediums, had existed along the French Broad River since the 1970’s. In October of 2024, the district was decimated by Hurricane Helene's floodwaters, which damaged or destroyed an estimated 80% of the buildings, profoundly impacting Asheville's creative community and disproportionately affecting the livelihoods of artists, musicians and restaurant workers.

2025 BENEFICIARY
WNC Tip It Forward
Providing Critical Relief for Culinary & Creative Workers & Small Businesses in Western North Carolina
MEPAINTSME is based in Asheville, North Carolina, a small city celebrated for its thriving arts and music scene, award-winning farm to table restaurants, and independently owned small businesses. Its unofficial slogan, “Keep Asheville Weird”, is a symbol of the city’s unique character, and encourages locals and visitors alike to embrace individuality, eccentricity and diversity. In September of 2024, Hurricane Helene struck the area and caused widespread damage, profoundly impacting the community and disproportionately affecting the livelihoods of those who make Asheville and its surrounding areas special—it’s artists, musicians and restaurant workers.
In response to this widespread devastation, GBX Group has partnered with Asheville Independent Restaurants (AIR) and the Asheville Area Arts Council (ArtsAVL) to launch the "WNC Tip It Forward" campaign, an urgent relief fund to provide critical, fast financial support for local artists and food service workers who have been directly impacted, and to support the ongoing charitable efforts of ArtsAVL and AIRin their work towards long term recovery.
Proceeds from the 2025 MEPAINTSME Open Call Exhibition and Fundraiser will be donated to the WNC Tip It Forward campaign, which aims to raise $1,000,000 by the end of 2025 to provide relief grants to culinary and creative workers, and small, independent arts & culinary businesses in Western North Carolina.
Please join us in supporting a cause close to our hearts and home. #WNCTipItForward
